True to her commitment in favouring a citizen consultative approach, the seeds for this idea were planted on February, 2020 during a series of public consultations with the local senior citizen population. This process was also accompanied by an online survey that that received an excess of 700 responses. The online survey was an added tool to allow the citizens to express their preferences with regards to the activities and facilities that they would like to be included within this flagship infrastructure. <\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0We wanted to involve the citizens early within the decision-making process in order to allow them to actively contribute right from the inception of the project. The ideation process had allowed us to observe the very favourable reception of the residents of Brossard towards this community centre and had confirmed that it truly corresponds to the needs clearly expressed by the main interested parties\u00a0\u00bb, says Mayor Doreen Assaad and leader of Brossard Ensemble, insisting on the fact that the activities of the 50 + centre will complement the programming already offered by the accredited organizations.  <\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0We are optimistic that the steps that will be taken to obtain the necessary government grants will be successful. Once the stage of the project is settled, my team and I will be eager to move ahead quickly to the next step, which is the launch of an architectural competition,\u00a0\u00bb the Mayor emphasizes with enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p>Family Oriented, Multigenerational and Inclusive<\/p>\n<p>In parallel to this project, the Brossard Ensemble team is committed to improving its recreational offerings that are geared towards families, as well as to promoting intergenerational interactions within the city\u2019s recreational facilities. The implementation and revitalization of neighbourhood parks will be accelerated, with the addition of outdoor recreational facilities, in order to better respond to multigenerational needs.<\/p>\n<p>Aquatic facilities, training facilities, a bicycle pumptrack, pickleball, tennis, petanque, cricket and table tennis courts will be made available in these public spaces. Wherever possible, attention will be given to providing the appropriate facilities for people with reduced mobility. Brossard Ensemble is also committed to increased  winter season utilization of our parks by, among other things, building a refrigerated skating rink as well as developing cross-country skiing &#038; snowshoeing trails. Doreen Assaad&rsquo;s team will also provide safe access to public washrooms in the city\u00e8s parks.<\/p>\n<p>Separate pedestrian and bicycle paths will also be created to improve the safety and comfort of all users, young and old, Sunday sportsmen or long-distance riders. It goes without saying that particular attention will be paid to the beauty and user-friendliness of the facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The range of recreational activities will also be increased in order to better meet the growing demand, particularly with regard to activities offered by the city, such as swimming lessons for example. The addition of pavilions in the parks for dance, yoga, conferences, art events, etc. are integral additions to our planned initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Culture activities are also an important aspect of the recreational services offered in Brossard. In this regard, Brossard Ensemble intends to review and revise the cultural activities programs that are offered to our senior citizens, families and youth in order to enact improvements where necessary. The possibility of establishing a second library within city limits will also be evaluated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0The city of Brossard owns ten cultural infrastructure assets, and each one of them provides us with ample opportunities to maximize their use,\u00a0\u00bb said the outgoing mayor.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Increased recreational programs for seniors and families represents, during the current campaign, one of our six main electoral priorities.
